Brigitte Rosset

A bundle of comedic energy

Outstanding Female Actor 2015

Brigitte Rosset was born in Geneva in 1970, the youngest of four children; today she is herself a mother of three, and a multi-talented actor to boot. From 1990 to 1993 she attended the Ecole supérieure d’art dramatique (ESAD) in Geneva, and has appeared with the Comédie de Genève ensemble since 2012. Parallel to this she presents solo programmes and writes her own pieces as well as a Tuesday column in the newspaper Le Matin. She also regularly publishes her “Brigitte Show”, a web series on YouTube, Daily Motion and Facebook. She received the Prix de l’humour from the Societé suisse des auteurs (SSA) in 2012 for “Smarties, Kleenex et Canada Dry”.

Her work is characterised by expressivity, pace, wit and linguistic virtuosity. In 1992 she toured Switzerland, France and Belgium presenting café theatre with her then group La Cie des Degrés de Poule. After working for the Théâtre de Carouge and founding La Cie Confiture in 1996 with Sara Barberis, Philippe Cohen and Gaspard Boesch, in 2001 she created her first solo programme written by Cohen, “Voyage au bout de la noce”. She has made regular TV appearances in French-speaking Switzerland since 1993, and also acts in both shorts and feature films. Her second solo programme from 2009, “Suite matrimoniale, avec vue sur la mere”, offers a prime example of her sardonic and socially critical performances, as she satirises her double life as mother and actor. Her fourth one-woman show at the Comédie de Genève opens at the end of April 2015.

“Brigitte Rosset brings together an impressive gallery of the talents that are necessary to a brilliant career. Actor, chronicler and author, she imbues her characters with energy and natural truth. Originally from the world of café theatre, she also works under the direction of Georges Wod at the Théâtre de Carouge. She is involved in setting up the Compagnie Confiture and appears in more than fifteen shows with them. During the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, she impresses audiences with her performances as Antonia in Dario Fo’s ‘Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay!’ directed by Joan Mompart at La Comédie de Genève, and a young woman consumed by the torments of relationship break-up in her third solo ‘Smarties, Kleenex et Canada Dry’”.
