Jury report

With the 13 outfits of the ‘Blackberry' collection, which were created during her atelier stay in New York (as the winner of the 2003 Swiss Federal Design Award), Irene Münger's label ‘Blackpool' has won an award for the third time in succession. This time she was inspired by the old rooms of the Museum of Natural History in New York, the last ‘hideaway for certain woodland animals' in this urban environment. In her usual independent manner, the fashion designer defines her topic in terms of content, colour and form. With skilful cuts, striking silhouettes and through the combination of robust and ‘historical' fabrics such as thick cotton, brocade, but also silk, soft leather and cord, she creates outfits reminiscent of life in a hunting lodge. Like light reflexes on a dark forest floor, Japanese-like ornaments, pastel colours and gold in glittering festiveness break through the dominant green and earth tones. These outfits thus breathe a similar atmosphere to that surrounding the foxes, pheasants and deer in the museum and come together in an extremely harmonious collection.
