Architecture

Jury report

Study recalls a space defined by the fragments of an architectural history. Four parts of an incomplete structure illustrate different stages of the formalisation process and are cast in furan resin sand. A transitory material used in the mass production of metal objects, furan resin sand is normally destined to become a mould rather than to be moulded. This unexpected inversion is emphasised by the black hue of the substance, showing it to be a poché. Recalling the studiolo or Stonehenge, the four monolithic slabs mine the potential of a material, opening up the realm of haptic, structural and spatial explorations. A fragmentary note on this process, the essay accompanying the work adds a lasting quality to this subtly ephemeral object.
