By developing a variable and systematic design for a new typeface for the football club FC Basel, Sylvan Lanz proves that innovation is possible even within the highly standardised field of kit typefaces. The convincing presentation shows that the new typeface is highly versatile while being graphically striking at the same time; this is even more important as generally in sports, but especially in football, numbers and names play such a prominent role. The jury acknowledges not only the smart solution but also the client’s trust in the designer’s expertise.
