Special Academy Award 2022

The Special Academy Award 2022 goes to visual artist and production designer Nicole Hoesli for the production design of Soul of a Beast.

Statement by the Nomination Committee:
Nicole Hoesli showed a keen sense for the overall visual composition and a refined feel for the small details with a production design that never fails to surprise. Through a creative combination of direction and camera work, she created a cinematic space where different milieus come together and reality and fantasy seamlessly merge. The playful ease of Nicole Hoesli’s work and the courage to adopt a creative originality that does not shy away from the surreal, make a material contribution to the atmospheric density and occasionally magical mood that make Soul of a Beast stand out as a film.
