Jury report
A partition made of four panels of frosted glass the texture of granite is presented to the viewer like an opaque, lightly shimmering boundary. Creating an inaccessible space, this structure replicates the back of an exhibition space where a dark shape on the ground and a burst of light suggest the traces of an act, a mysterious presence or the elements of a still life. Evoking Jean Genet’s film A Song of Love where two prisoners express their desire through the wall that separates their adjoining cells, Nelly Haliti confronts the spectator with a shimmering surface as the starting point of a subtle reflection on the practice of painting and the norms of the exhibition context.
