Meret Oppenheim

Nearly 30 years after Meret Oppenheim's death, selections from her correspondence have been published for the first time. The comprehensive volume with a softcover groups together substantial excerpts of letters exchanged with 34 correspondents. Within each correspondence the letters follow one after the other without interruption in a two-column layout, so most of the pages are well filled. Between the pages of text are numerous single sheets in different colours that feature the fronts and backs of one to three facsimiles. The simple structure and elegant execution make for a superb presentation of the wealth of material. Without glorifying Oppenheim, the book serves as a guide to her world and can be explored at leisure. The typography is in perfect accord with the letter genre and is virtuoso in every detail. The cover has a very seductive quality. The book received the Golden Letter - the highest award - in the Best Book Design from all over the World competition (Stiftung Buchkunst, Frankfurt).
