L’Art Brut de Jean Dubuffet, aux origines de la collection
To mark its 40th anniversary, the Collection de L'Art Brut Lausanne presents a large-format catalogue tracing the history of Jean Dubuffet's collection from its origins, to the donation and the institution's inauguration and on to the present day. The book's design language, for all its historical roots, appears surprisingly contemporary. Three image sections present drawings, paintings and sculptures almost as if in a museum, mostly alone on a page against a white or black background. The three corresponding text sections with further illustrations are dominated by strong contrasts created by large white spaces and a bold yet relatively small font. The essays in two languages are contained within a symmetrical layout, each in a narrow column, with English on the left and French on the right, while the footnotes are added in a second, still narrower column.
