This technically thorough and culturally sensitive research project on the parallels in the history and characteristics of Ming and Latin serif typefaces has resulted in a new, extensive and variable serif font that serves as an ideal counterpart to old-style CJK (Chinese / Japanese / Korean) typefaces. With his extensive knowledge of Ming and his training as a type designer in Lausanne, Chiachi Chao’s typeface Kleisch serves as a versatile tool for designers to pair typefaces effectively and enable cross-cultural communication exchange.
