atelier oï

From modest beginnings: a 35-year journey

atelier oï was set up in 1991 by Aurel Aebi (*1966, Heimiswil), Armand Louis (*1966, Ligerz), Patrick Reymond (*1962, L’Abbaye). The three founders operate across disciplines at the interface of product design, scenography, architecture and interior architecture. Their work extends from small-format objects to complex spatial orchestrations, and combines precise craftsmanship with material experimentation.

The studio achieved international fame with projects for Expo.02 and with lighting designs such as Allegro and Allegretto for the Italian lighting company Foscarini. Today, atelier oï works around the globe for clients from the culture, industry and luxury goods sectors, including Louis Vuitton, Artemide, Issey Miyake A-POC ABLE, USM and Nespresso, as well as for public and charitable institutions such as Smiling Gecko Cambodia.

The Federal Design Commission notes that atelier oï has been an exemplary national and international Swiss design success story for more than 35 years. Its unique combination of craftsmanship, material research and poetic expression, its interdisciplinary approach and its commitment to teaching and cultural exchange have made it an influential and inspiring role model for young designers.
