About the year 2012
CompetitionThe Federal Design Competition has been running continuously since 1918. A total of 288 designers have registered for the 2012 edition. The Federal Design Commission, chaired by Patrick Reymond, awarded prizes to 20 group works by 26 designers. The winners can choose between a cash prize (CHF 25,000), an internship or a studio stay abroad.
For the first time this year the competition had no age limit (previously it was 40 years old). A glance at the list of winners shows that around a fifth of the winners are over 40 years of age. The same proportion is found among the candidates. Prizes were awarded for work in the following fields: graphic design (7), fashion and textile design (4), photography (4), products and objects (3), mediation (2).
Exhibition and documentation
The award-winning works will be exhibited from 26 October 2012 at the Museum Bellerive in Zurich. The exhibition will be supplemented by a comprehensive documentation of the prize-winning works, including images, videos and texts, which can be viewed at www.swissdesignawards.ch.
