Mathias Balzer

(b. 1967) has been culture editor at the regional newspaper bzBasel since March 2017. He was chief culture editor at Südostschweiz newspapers in Chur from 2012 to 2016. After attending the Bern School of Design and working as an assistant in Zurich for a number of years, he founded the alpodrom theatre with Brigitte Balzer in 1993. He was programme director at the Marsoel guest house and cultural venue in Chur from 2000 to 2005. Until 2009, he worked as a dramaturge and editor at the Theater Chur under Markus Luchsinger, and took over as director of the theatre ad interim in 2009/10. He has also been a producer and dramaturge for 400asa, kraut_produktionen, Hans Peter Litscher, Duri Bischoff, Achim Lenz, Markus Gerber and the Teatro delle Ariette, Bologna.
