Walking as Research Practice
This anthology on an Amsterdam conference on the topic of ’walking as research practice’ is a very easy-to-handle softback book on light-grey paper, constructed in a novel and surprising way. The book block has no cover and is glued using a binding gauze, allowing the pages to be refolded entirely as the reader wishes. It can always be held easily in one hand. The texts remain fully and clearly readable, as they appear in a relatively large serif typeface and only on the right-hand pages. This construction is every bit as functional as it is elaborate. It also links directly to the theme of the conference in that it allows the book to be held in one hand and enjoyed while walking. Additional elements – footnotes, bibliographical details and a few pictures – are placed on some of the left-hand pages, printed in gold. Blank pages reserved for notes underscore that this is in many respects a book for active readers. Everything is straightforward, clear and self-assured.
