Alexandra Bachzetsis. Show Time Book / Book Time Show
This hefty and flexible monograph by the dancer and choreographer Alexandra Bachzetsis largely uses existing pictorial material, but then creates something new from the ways in which it is combined. Each individual work is represented by a series of images from different sources – press material, advertising material, portraits, documentation, and so on. These sections of recycled images alternate with new essays in a uniform black-and-white layout. There are also three visual essays and two sections of poetry, which are printed in special fonts on highgloss colour paper. The various elements come together to form an eclectic show, in the same way that Bachzetsis often works with changes of scenery, costume and lighting in individual works. Everything is brimming with energy and vitality. The vinyl dust jacket printed in neon green combines with the cardboard cover to deliver a foretaste of the contrasts within. There is a great deal to see, but the book never becomes cluttered or mannered.
