Revelo N°1. Chroniques de chantier. Transformation de la Gare, CH–1800 Vevey
A large but light book with many strong colours documenting the renovation of the railway station at Vevey skilfully blends a range of visual languages: information design, highly experimental design and elements of the Swiss Federal Railways corporate design. The volume comprises six newspaper issues that are folded and cut open, then bound into a book format that is half their size. The issues were available free of charge at Swiss railway stations before the book was produced, and they present the station through architectural details, renovation techniques, cultural-historical contexts, art-in-architecture projects and more, Between each of the issues are eight pages of a thin coated paper, sometimes containing pictorial essays, sometimes information in text form – a list of the companies involved, extensive publication details. The successful combination of the disparate sections is in part due to the use of the SBB corporate font and the Color Library colour separation program throughout. Given its wide target audience, the book’s editorial and design approach is bold. Its creators’ hope is that interdisciplinary forms of access and a pop culture aesthetic can help to disseminate content that otherwise might not be especially attractive. This is a contemporary statement.
