Skulptur Projekte Münster 2017

Functionality for a Mass Audience

The catalogue of the sculpture exhibition in Münster is user-friendly in every respect. Despite an almost A4 format and nearly 500 pages, its light paper and softcover make it easy to handle. It is very well organised and immediately accessible: the main sections are listed on the inside of the cover, with an alphabetical directory of artists next to them acting as a navigation system. The participants are then introduced twice: once in an image section with large, full-bleed views of the works shown in Münster, and then in the main section with smaller pictures and texts in German (black) and English (blue). Both sections – like those that follow on events and the public collection – begin with a black-coloured double page that is visible side-on. This, together with the pink-coloured side margins of the main section, allows for swift access. The volume is thus specifically designed for daily use by a mass audience. It is also affordable, thanks to low-cost production using web offset printing and a perfect binding.
