Leo, a plumber bringing up his two children alone, and Diana, a dreamy and penniless young artist, meet one day at a lawyer’s office. As their destinies become entwined, various characters cross their paths, from young school dropout Elia who is raising a stork in secret, Amanzio, who has quit his job to live as an urban recluse and Leo’s late wife Teresa, who pops in every night for a chat, to a Chinese man called Fiorenzo, a slipper maker and a mysterious private detective. While all this is going on, Diana and Leo fall in love.
