We see Renaud Defrancesco’s work as an educational object – “fuel for thought” in both literal and figurative senses. The project questions the conventional logic of sustainability. Instead of being made to last forever or form part of a circular economy, it makes the case for intelligent ephemerality. It is a long-overdue solution for the disposal of monobloc seating: users burn the stool themselves, leg by leg, to generate heat.
