Jury report

Nowadays, we know that our smartphones and the technology associated with them form part of a highly sophisticated surveillance apparatus. Thaddé Comar transports us to Hong Kong in 2019, when the future of democracy was at stake. Armed with his camera, he dives right into the heart of the protests and sheds light on the conflict between the protestors and law enforcement. He shows how the activists are especially wary of cameras and other recording devices, to the point where they attempt to become invisible or untraceable to these highly repressive technologies of control that, as he documents, are changing the nature of struggle and resistance.
