For the 40th anniversary of the Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg, Pauline Mayor and Loïc Volkart chose to dig into the institute’s archive, combining found newspaper headlines, slogans and documentary photographs. While communication mandates for jubilees usually carry a high risk of lapsing into nostalgia, they managed to build a contemporary narrative by mischievously clashing and combining the archival references, creating a refreshing representation that pays homage to the institution’s history, but with a thoroughly modern attitude.
