Marceline Berchtold submitted a new series of apron dresses, a collection entitled ‘foscher' (aprons), which she implemented in the context of the project ‘beTrachten - eine interaktive Ausstellung zum aktuellen Kleidungsverhalten im Wallis' (‘beTrachten - an interactive exhibition on current clothing trends in the canton of Valais') and for which she has been inspired by the traditional costumes that are still worn in Visperterminen today. Using an impressively simple cut, the textile designer combines variations of the three elements front section, side sections and straps in an extremely diverse manner. By processing the most varied textiles with the most different designs, pieces are created that, despite their in part close formal relationship, can be worn to the most diverse events. Developed from a precisely outlined idea, this work is impressive in its careful implementation. Although the apron is presented in such a varied manner, it never becomes an independent item of clothing, but remains, in accordance with tradition, a generous, yet somewhat dominant accessory.
