Jury report
Aimée Hoving's photographic quest for ‘personalities in the professional sphere' leads her to the innermost areas of numerous Geneva law firms. Her series of thirteen (unpublished) colour photographs show all the portrayed men behind their desks, surrounded by the requisites of daily work. The photographer always positions herself in front of the desks and makes these the centre of her focus. The repeated image formation means that those portrayed become part of the interior, and induces comparative observation, which shifts the emphasis onto the differences and parallels of these worlds in a clear and almost caricature-like manner. Although representative encounters only partly occur in these rooms, they appear to serve the portrayed lawyers as a platform of professional and personal self-production. The images have a strongly anecdotal content, especially because they are presented as a series and due to a discreetly voyeuristic potential. Despite the proximity, the photographer always manages to maintain respect and thus to make the images an entertaining essay about working culture.
