TÜRM. Les Chantiers de la Mystériosité

TÜRM. Les Chantiers de la Mystériosité

This fairly small, square book of text with a thick beige and red hardcover sets out a conversation between the Lausanne architects Bakker & Blanc in a decidedly performative way. The dialogue, which is entirely unillustrated, is presented as a theatrical script, complete with acts, stage directions, cast lists and so forth. The large serif typeface and short, single-column text blocks are reminiscent at times of early modern printing. In places the effect is also of a type specimen book, as there is huge variation in the type size, with some initial capitals that fill an entire page, very large subheadings in the middle of a page, roman and italic text within the script, and smaller fonts in a bibliography printed in red on four smaller grey pages. The cover is coated with an insulating construction material, and a 45 rpm vinyl record has been inserted into the back cover. The whole effect is very stylish and attractive, and the object would make a good stage prop.
