This publication accompanying a series of performances by Florence Jung is striking in the directness of its relationship to the work and its continuation in the book medium. Jung recruited 12 art and design students from the F+F school in Zurich for a performance series in which they were to embody roles such as ‘ambitious painter’, ‘artist with particular interest’ and ‘Bravo Girl 1’. As their employer, she negotiated detailed contracts with all the performers covering everything from payment to performance times and durations, breaks and catering. The book reproduces the 12 countersigned contracts, some with handwritten additions, recto and verso, in their original A4 format. The result is a documentation of the ephemeral medium of performance that is as uncluttered as it is precise, and underscores the conceptual approach of employing art and design students to create a work of art. As the contracts are printed in their entirety, without changes, the boundaries blur between artwork and book design – thanks not least to the fact that the originals were very skilfully typeset. The documentation is contained within a white cardboard cover with the table of contents printed on the front.
