A large-format volume with a black hardcover and white dust jacket on which the barely visible light-grey initials F and M are set one above the other accompanies an exhibition by Fabian Marti at the Kunstmuseum Luzern. The book's design is well matched to the art. The large illustrations of the works are placed in pairs on a double page with a white or black border, accentuating the theme of black and white that is a frequent characteristic of Marti's work. Where the border and image backgrounds are equally black, the illustrations are set off by a special varnish. The works are grouped by technique - first a large number of photograms, then inkjet prints - and the individual pairings are arranged by thematic or formal links in a way that recalls an artist's book. The typography of the accompanying essays is at times slightly out of focus, which can be read as a reference to the photograms.
